The  art fair is moving to a virtual format this year and with it, SVA Galleries and the eight alumni artists it is presenting at the event (Booth C-18). This is the second year SVA has shown at UNTITLED, and the College joins 60 other exhibiting galleries from 30 cities in 18 countries for the UNTITLED, ART Miami Beach Online Viewing Room (OVR), which will be open continuously from Wednesday, December 2, through Sunday, December 6. Entry to the fair is free with registration on their website.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, UNTITLED, an international, curated art fair founded in 2012, launched the art world’s first virtual-reality art fair earlier this year, in July. At UNTITLED, ART Miami Beach OVR, visitors will be greeted upon entry with a curated exhibitor floor-plan that offers an orientation to the online fair. The OVR features works of art in a realistic, high-definition gallery environment with furnishings for perspective and scale, and guests have the option of signing an exhibitor’s virtual guest book, as well as engaging with the gallery directly through a live chat function. There will also be a series of live panel discussions on Zoom and social-media platforms throughout the fair.

While this year may be a first for the online viewing room model, for several years SVA Galleries has been committed to showing the work of recent alumni at art fairs, connecting them directly with the public. This year’s booth features eight alumni artists, all of whom graduated in 2020, working in media from colored pencils to found photography to biotech. Barbara Owen (MFA 2020 Art Practice) and Mike Marella (MFA 2020 Fine Arts) both operate somewhere between painting and sculpture, focused on bold colors and the totemic transformation of material. Xinyu HanXổ số kiến thiết Bến Tre hàng tuần’s (BFA 2020 Fine Arts) atmospheric paintings deal with modern-day alienation, while ’s (BFA 2020 Visual & Critical Studies) color-pencil works draw equally from childhood impulses and art-historical motifs. The photo-based works of  (MFA 2020 Photography, Video and Related Media) and  (BFA 2020 Photography and Video) center, respectively, around humorous, bittersweet or unobserved moments of everyday life, and the strength and frailty of our bodies both physical and social.

(MFA 2020 Fine Arts) presents delicate, gently abstracted, embroidered textiles with their own compact and easy-to-assemble hanging mechanism, while SVA Bio Lab Manager  (MFA 2020 Fine Arts; BFA 2010 Fine Arts) captures the intricate crystal lattice structure of her tears, part of a years-long exploration into the physical principle of wetness as a metaphor for empathy, social permeability and our fluid selves. The SVA Galleries booth is curated by SVA External Relations project manager Dan Halm (MFA 2001 Illustration as Visual Essay; BFA 1994 Illustration).

Independent of SVA Galleries, alumnus  (BFA 2008 Fine Arts) will also be exhibiting at UNTITLED. Her evocative painting—which place contrasting materials next to one another to create a multi-layered surface that speaks to the evolution of time—are dreamily immersive in warm and colorful beauty.

will be open continuously from 11:00am ET, Wednesday, December 2, through 11:59pm ET Sunday, December 6. Entry to the fair is free with registration on their website.
